Meanwhile, the Shinsengumi Saber of the group would sigh, rubbing the back of his neck. "Whew...what an ordeal." He would then eye Mari sitting by her lonesome. The man considered letting her be, but then decided against it, going to sit by her. "It is a bit chilly, huh? How are ya holding up?" 'Fujita' attempted to strike up a conversation with the girl, though even he knew that she was going through some stuff at a mere glance and from observations from before...well, somewhat scuffed observations.

Mari watches Fujita's expression grow grim with wide eyes. "I-I don't know." Even when she acted sullen, she still had high energy, but now, all of it is gone with her surprise. She seemed like she already had something in mind, but.. From the corner of her eyes, tears start to spill out all on their own. "―" She reaches for her face, shocked at her own reaction. @Kiwa | Saito

His eyes widen a bit at the sight of her tears. Without much else being said, he moved a hand to her face, to wipe some of said teardrops away. He would then rest his hand on her shoulder, hugging her close with one arm. While he didn't say it, 'Fujita' would essentially be offering her a literal shoulder to cry on. The Saber merely sat there, embracing Mari to allow her to vent her feelings properly, now while she could.

Mari's fingers grab hold of Saito's arm, tightening against it before relaxing again. After that, she silently cries into his shoulder. It doesn't last long, and when she's done, the awkwardness of the situation sinks in. "Sorry." She murmurs an apology into his clothes. "I never cry." "..I can't believe I let a man make me cry." For this comment, she puts her face deeper into his shoulder again, muffling her own words.

"Hey, we all have our moments..." Saito would nod empathetically, patting her shoulder a bit. At her remark though, he smiled, trying to cheer her up. "Man, woman, or otherwise, there is no shame in letting out pent up emotions, especially to those you care for." He chuckled softly, looking back at the fire. "Though, I suppose this renders the campfire rather useless...so how about now? You feeling good this time?" Again, while he grinned and made the remark with some playful sass, the man would speak with genuine sincerity.

"Mhm." Mari nods, but she doesn't raise her head from his shoulder just yet. "Is it okay if you..stay like this for a bit?"

With a nod, Fujita would relax, almost hunkering down where they sat. "Take as much time as ya need. This time, there isn't anything urgent to rush to...I think." Laughing softly, he would stare into the campfire, staying near Mari for however long she requested of him.

Mari's heart softly beats against Saito's arm. A lot more time passes than when she was crying on his shoulder. "..If you're still here tomorrow, I want to tell you about someone. Would you listen?"

"..Thanks." Mari sounds like she's smiling. She finally takes her head off Saito's shoulder, and.. ".." With her eyes closed, she kisses him on his cheek.

At first, the kiss did not register to the Saber. This was not because he did not have experience with such a thing, but because of how distracted he was in comforting her. When it finally occurred to him, his cheeks flushed, though unlike the classic anime freak out, he instead chuckled softly. "Quite a bold move you just pulled there." Grinning now, the man would shuffle where he sat, looking now to the sky above. "Hm...looks like night is about to dawn. You eat anything yet? Gotta keep your strength up if we're gonna meet tomorrow." Fujita looks back to her.

Mari opens her eyes and smiles brightly. "You were being nice, so I had to give you a kiss as thanks." "My parents are helping make dinner," she says. "They should be done any second now." She gets up and dusts herself off. "Let's go."
